No time to post

Spare time has been hard to come by around here, partly due to the fact that we have a 9 week old round these parts but mainly because we're moving on Sat. Whaaat?! We found out on Monday that the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend was the only available date so here we go! Needless to say, this move is going to go down as one of the most disorganized in the history of moves.

Here are a couple of pics of the not so little guy. He gets bigger and bigger every day!

8 weeks

Ambrose is 8 weeks and here's a quick bulleted list of things I've learned about him

*he weighs in at 10lbs 12oz (up a whole 1lb and a half in two weeks) and is 22.5inches long

* he's smiles constantly, never at the same thing twice however

* he is the lightest sleeper EVER...here's a list of things that wake him

  • my knees cracking

  • the sound of HIM sucking on his pacifier

  • my growling tummy (because I've missed a couple meals trying to calm his adorable butt down!)

  • his own farts (surprised the smell doesn't wake him as well, they're AWFUL)

  • me sneezing in his face after I've gone in and checked on him

  • jet noise

* He is an EARLY riser, wakes up no later than 5:30 and much to my dismay will not go back to sleep, no matter how many baby whisperish things I try!

*His eyes are a beautiful shade of blue and hair, well what hair he has, is a brownish color

* He only poops once every 3-5 days, and every.single. time is a blowout (the past two have both been a Lester hospital... another post for another day).

*he spends so much time in different carries I'm shocked he doesn't have "bed" sores

** He is the light of my life :)

Just a few pics

Ambrose started smiling about 2 weeks ago, however they are soooo hard to catch on camera. After a few attempts at catching them on video and only ending up with me sounding like a fool and him looking at me like I'm crazy, I gave up and started trying to catch it with a still camera. here are 2 shots however, neither truly do his smile justice!

We are still loving bath time, it's one of my favorite times of the day!

here is his 8 week pic, we have his 8 week appointment tomorrow, I'll post the stats when I get back!

Ebb and Flow

Everyone has told us that squadron's experience Ebb's and flows, whether it's an Eb or flow of single guys, crazy parties or pregnant ladies. Well, we came to Okinawa on the tail end of a baby "flow", a couple of months passed and it seemed like the majority of people in the squadron were young newly married lieutenants and baby fever had passed. Well, baby fever caught on once again and there are a ton of pregnant ladies and new born babies in the squadron, how wonderful for us :)

Here is a picture from one of our get togethers, what an adorable sight!

From left to right...

Giampietri, Connaboy, Murdock, Heath, Fischer, (and of course I don't know the last name of this person in the 67th :( We are missing the Keuhni's baby boy... We still have 3 other ladies in the squadron that are expecting in a few short months...fun fun!

6 Weeks!

Ambrose is 6 weeks old, yikes...six whole weeks! Even at six weeks Ambrose makes his likes and dislikes known (through incessant crying and pouty faces).

Likes:

  • slings, wraps and any other carrier: these things have been a LIFE SAVER from day 1. All is right in his little world ( and thus right in mine) when he is thrown in one of these.

  • baths: 5 weeks ago this would have ended up in the dislike category, but through much convincing from his father, we pushed through the crying, and he now loves his bath time.

  • being swaddled : every time he sleeps, he's swaddled. He still shows no signs of knowing that those flailing things that hit him in the head, scratch his face or claw his eyeballs out are his hands and HE is in control of them.

  • Exercise ball: this was one of our secret weapons in the beginning. During a desperate moment I remembered someone mentioning that their child liked being bounced on an exercise ball as a babe, we tried it and he calmed down... needless to say we have spend many hours bouncing on this silly thing, it's the best 17.95 we ever spent ( I swear the color on the box was grey, not blue swirl).

  • Pup: this was the first toy he focused on and acted interested in (thank you Heather).

  • books: I know... Mr smarty pants already :) Part of our bedtime routine is reading a book, and he actually looks at the pictures and seems fairly interested in the story.

  • his car seat: well actually car rides. Getting him into the car seat cry free is impossible, but once we're on the road he usually realizes it's not half bad and passes out.Don't get me wrong we've had our fair share of screaming during Okinawan traffic, , but for the most part he enjoys it.

dislikes:

  • getting his diaper or clothes changed. every. single. time. we change clothes or a diaper it results in this scene ...

  • sleeping: I get the feeling he thinks it's for the weak and those who give in and neither of those things are him.

  • the swing: everyone said that this would be my life saver...mmm not so much. He's just now at the point where he'll tolerate it for about 4-5 minutes on a good day.

  • being swaddled: while being swaddled does calm him almost instantly and keeps him from waking himself he loves to have his hands by his face. Somehow, this little Houdini will find a way to partially escape is infant straight jacket and get at least a finger up by his face.
